How do we work?

Greenhouse has always been run by volunteers. They continue to be the mainstay of the centre, staffing the information desk and carrying out all the day-to-day tasks involved with running a busy information and resource service. In October 2000 a paid Co-ordinator was appointed thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. The grant has also enabled us to pay for training and expenses for volunteers. It’s a chance for Greenhouse to develop further and move into new projects.

Greenhouse is a Company Limited by guarantee with charitable purposes. It has a board of directors who are elected annually.

Day to day decisions are made by a Management Committee, made up of Greenhouse users: volunteers, representatives of groups, members and directors. This meets every 2 weeks and everyone involved with Greenhouse is encouraged to attend and be part of the decision-making process.

Partnership working

Greenhouse started as a partnership of groups who all got together to buy a building because they needed space and facilities. We have carried on this tradition both by working together to provide general support to each other and on specific projects.
