School holidays workshops with Coral: Life Mask Making, Amazing results. Wednesdays 4th and 11th; Poi Workshop, Thursdays 5, 12 and 19th

Poi is the Maori word for ball on a cord. The indigenous Maori people of New Zealand, many years ago, used the poi to increase their flexibility, strengthen their hands and arms as well as improv-ing coordination. The Poi dance, origi-nally, was used by the Maori women for keeping their hands flexible for weav-ing and by the men for strength and coordination required during battle. Essentially, poi are weights on the ends of strings or chains. By attaching one to each hand, they become extensions of the body's movement, and provide an excel-lent means of exploring and training motor skills, balance, and full body coordination. Also on 19th a CELEBRATION DAY with a barbecue and a performance by local performers.

SEPTEMBER 2004

September–Back to school month

The next two months look like being really busy at Greenhouse – what with Network News relocating to Greenhouse this month, and the Homestart Children's Support Project due to move in at the beginning of October. Homestart have for a long time been very keen to move in to Greenhouse and have been waiting to know the outcome of their application to the Lottery. They were successful and will be moving in to the shop space for easy access, which will coincide with the start of the outside renovation of the building (subject to final approval by the Planning Department!) which is so very badly needed.

OCTOBER 2004

Alex and Coral, two co-ordinators, were busy working with volunteers improving the building, Alex and Terry laid the new floor in the Homestart-project's office space ready for them to move in this month. Coral and Syd have been busy painting and decorating the hall ways. Two valuable volunteers are leaving us to go on to new and exiting new vistas. Christine Longdon and Syd Wedlock are now students at Coleg Harech from this autumn. Another two volunteers have moved on to full employment – must be the Greenhouse-effect. We wish them all well for the future.

NOVEMBER 2004

We welcome-Homestart and Sian and Charlotte to Greenhouse. Home-Start offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young childeren, in the local community.

Sarah Andrewa left FPA to go free-lance after nearly 20 years, first as a volunteer and later as a paid trainer. Sarah was also one of the founding members of Greenhouse was formed in 1981 and has been company secretary for many years.
